Dances to the goddess have been performed for thousands of years.The narrative of this dance is inspired by the myth of Demeter , Persephone and Hades.

The story of Demeter , Persephone and Hades.

When the gods of Greece lived on Mount Olympus. Demeter, goddess of the harvest, had a daughter. She was virtuous and a praised beauty of Olympus. Her name was Persephone.

Persephone, though she loved her mother dearly, longed every day to see more of the world. Sometimes the constant attention of her mother would annoy her. She longed for freedom.

Persephone would sometimes go to a glade at the mountain's base she felt connected to Earth and nature , she would meditate ,sing and reflect.
As the years past and she grew older, Persephone began to long for someone to share her life with. Her mother wouldn't talk to her of marriage, so she had resigned herself to a life alone.

One day when Persephone was in her glade, Hades, the lord of the Underworld, saw her. Once in awhile, he would come up to see the things that belonged to the living . When Hades saw Persephone, he loved her he had never seen any one so beautiful.
Hades knew her mother, Demeter, and he knew that Demeter would never give her daughter's hand in marriage to him. Yet Hades heart ached when he thought of going back to the Underworld without Persephone. He resolved to make her his own.

One day when persephone went to visit her special place , her attention was drawn to an unusual red flower. She felt compelled to smell its fragrance. The flower was no ordinary flower employed by Gaia for Hades it was a portal to the underworld. Persephone smelt and admired the beautiful flower . Suddenly the large red bloom expanded and sucked her deep into the dark recesses of the underworld . She found her self standing next to Hades , she wasn't afraid. She was curious. She didn't know who he was. He was not mortal, but he didn't look like the other gods of Olympus. When his red eyes met hers she felt an electric connection and a sense of Kismet.
His power and darkness enchanted her , he thrilled yet repelled her. 'Live with me in the underworld and be my Queen' He demanded ! My Mother would forbid it. 'then I will force you' His eyes narrowed and his serpentine body tensed and flexed' . They became man and wife through erotic connection.

Meanwhile Demeter searched for her daughter high and low, far and wide. She resolved to keep the country in perpetual winter till she found her' Only then will I make the plants blossom again. It will seem like a miracle and everything on earth: People, Animals, Birds will know that my Persephone has returned.
and until then, the wind will blow and I shall cover the Earth...in Snow" -

Eventually Demeter was told where her daughter was. She descended to the underworld to confront Hades and retrieve her daughter. They agreed to share Persephone and spend six months a year each with her. When Hades has her everything dies back to be reborn again in spring when Demeter and Persephone are together again.
